Governors
Governance has become increasingly central to school life. The Governing body has specific powers and duties, with a particular remit of helping schools provide the best possible education for their pupils by:
* ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction
* holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance of its staff; and
* overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
All Saints is a Church of England school and its foundation governors are appointed by the Fleet Parish Parochial Church Council or the Diocese. In addition to the duties mentioned above, foundation governors have the role of upholding the Christian foundation of the school and encouraging mutually beneficial links between Church and school.
The FGB meets frequently and exercises many of its duties through the following Committees:

Meet our Chair of Governors
Kim Holifield - Foundation Governor - Chair
Having spent more than 30 years in finance (at HSBC and previously Midland Bank), I consider myself to be semi-retired and would like to spend more time getting involved with my local community. I have lived in Fleet for more than 25 years and my three children all attended All Saints.
I am a Foundation Governor appointed by the Guildford Diocese and an active member of St Philip and St James Church where I am a Godly Play story teller. I am also an Explorer Scout leader and a qualified swimming teacher.
My work experience includes internal audit, financial analysis and project monitoring, and I look forward to putting that to good use on the Resources Committee as in support of my general duties as a school governor.
Meet our Vice Chair
David Gulliver - Local Authority Governor
I was appointed as a co-opted Governor on 26 November 2018.
I believe that a good education for all is vital, and, as I am now retired, I determined to “give something back” by devoting some time to that end.
My working life was in finance where, with three colleagues, we built a successful business employing a staff of about 90 before merging with another company. I believe the skills needed in my business life of finance, legal, management and HR prove useful in my role as a Governor.
My spare time is spent with my family, which includes two young daughters, two older sons and four young grandchildren, although, whenever I can, I get away sailing with or without the family!
Tim Stern - Foundation Governor
Our family moved to Fleet in 2017 after spending three years in Ethiopia, where I worked for the British Embassy.
I have two daughters, both of whom are currently at All Saints. I work in the Foreign Office and have fifteen years' experience in public sector management and international policy, including overseeing risk, finance and value for money.
I have been a governor at Tavistock Infants school for four years. I’m delighted to now be able to use my skillset to support All Saints, and enjoy working with the other governors and teachers to ensure all its students continue to achieve their potential.
Tom Reader - Foundation Governor 
I was appointed as a Foundation Governor at All Saints in December 2022. Originally from Scotland, and via Virginia Water, my family moved to Fleet in July 2022. I have two children, one of whom, my son, is at All Saints.
Professionally, I am a professor of psychology (MA, PhD) at the London School of Economics, where I have worked for over 10 years. I direct a Masters in Organisational Psychology, teach undergraduate, postgraduate, and executive-level students, and lead a research laboratory. I specialise in the field of organisational culture and decision-making, and advise and work with organisations in fields such as healthcare, finance, energy, aviation, manufacturing, and the civil service.
As a governor, I hope to support the school in maintaining and developing its wonderful culture of ensuring that every child can ‘let their light shine’, and provide insight from academia on how pupils can both reach their potential and be happy in what they achieve.
Curriculum Exhibition for Governors
In the summer, our school councillors hosted a curriculum exhibition, talking to governors about our rich project based curriculum.
While the governors enjoyed looking at the project outcomes and listening to the experiences of our children, they reflected on the survey questions in the document above.
Richard Buller - Foundation Governor
I was employed by Shell International as an intellectual property lawyer for over 35 years working in London, The Hague and Amsterdam. I have lived in Fleet for 43 years and both of my children received an excellent education at Fleet state primary and secondary schools.
I have been Chair of Governors at All Saints School for over 5 years. I was appointed a Governor by Fleet Parochial Church Council where I am Chair of Finance and a member of the Church Rebuilding Team. I enjoy sports and am a keen supporter of cricket and rugby.
I feel very strongly that the most important thing we can do is to provide our young children with a challenging education in a safe and loving environment. As Governors we will do our best to ensure this is the case at All Saints School.
James Wall - Parent Governor
I joined the Governing Body, as a Parent Governor in March 2021, and sit on the Resources Committee, and currently have one child at the school.
Our children’s futures are largely secured by the education they receive, not just from books and the curriculum, but in the much wider context of their lives in society. All Saints embraces these basically Christian values wonderfully well and it is privilege to be a Governor at the school.
Mine is a business background and I have worked in big corporations like Marks & Spencer and I have run family businesses at senior board level. The lesson all this has taught me above everything is the vital importance of teamwork and encouraging collective governance and responsibility.
I have 20 years’ experience with strategic planning, managing and leading large teams of people, buildings and facilities management, detailed financial planning & budgeting, as well as problem solving. With these skills and knowledge, I look forward to contributing to the governing body in the coming years and supporting Mrs Brunton and the staff.
